I cannot connect to it via 3G on my Nokia X6, only via WIFI, which isn’t useful. When it does connect it is extremely slow, and it is currently showing my location as being at work (which is 15 miles away).

On my 6710 Navigator it takes at least a minute to quit. Sometimes it takes several minutes to close the app entirely.

In addition to that, the scrolling is a bit weird, as holding the down button doesn’t scroll. You get ‘stuck’ in the next item, which is a bit annoying when there’s a big list of friends or nearby places.

Great work. Love having a dedicated app and will be always available to support and help improve it.

- I can use just on wifi
- If im on GPRS/3G data flows but I see “Please wait” forever
- no 2.0 functions

Every time I want to check-in or do other stuff on my ,via Ovi-store downloaded, Foursquare app I get Authentication error followed by an Connection error. When I then log in again I’m put back to the begin-screen. Disappointing so far. (Nokia N96)

Don’t be a whiner. Grow up or find another app to use.

On Nokia E63: GPS through Bluetooth is required to check-in. It would have been better if we can also manually check-in ourselves.

I having a problem in Lisbon. My app shows that i’m in Sines every single time, and it simply doesn’t change! I don’t know if it’s a problem with the app, my country or the GPS, but everything is fine with Google Maps!

How do you log bugs or enhancements with the developer?
If I have my home wifi then this works fine but out and about it’s useless as it locks up and shows the “Please wait…” screen forever. If I hold the Menu button on the N97 Mini to find active apps then the menu list for networks is displayed. If I choose the 3G network, Foursquare is still frozen.
This needs fixing.

I agree! The think is, I have an E63 and a bluetooth GPS, and I don’t know why I only get one single region…Sines…wherever I go. I can ben either in Lisbon or not, always shows Sines, and I don’t know why because the GPS works perfectly with Google Maps!

If I use another apps with network connection all is without problem. Check discussion on Ovi.com. Some users report same problem. Maybe here is problem in selection of connection type. Good apps for Symbian has this dialog if phone try to connect into network. User can choose right connection depend on situation. It looks that some phones choose right connection but my N97 not.

Well, guess what?! It is not even loading at all just after I had already installed it from Ovi Store!! Is there is a fix for that or what?!!!

HI foursquare. Its not a problem with the service provider. On an N97 it also does not connect via 3G – when every other app works fine. In my case its AT&T Wireless in the US. It works over WiFi only. Please stop blaming the service provider. Was it actually tested over 3G on an N97? Is currently useless on the N97.

It doesn’t connect via WAP access point. That’s the issue some people is getting.
Some other apps embedding Foursquare work fine over WAP, such as Socially. I think you should do the same.

Hi, it’s not a problem with my provider (Three in the UK). I can connect to other apps just fine via 3G.

Plus the app called Gravity connects fine via 3G and checks in using the Foursquare API.

What news about 4sq for Windows mobile?

I installed this very excitedly on my E72 and was very disappointed by this Incredibly bad app, which was removed after a few failed attempts.

It doesn’t connect via 3G, only via wifi. Often tends to freeze up altogether, and when its working for a change, it has no idea where I am (which is something Gravity seems to have no problems doing, and nor does Waze).

I finally foun problem. Foursquare use only connection selected as primary. Choose Your GPRS/3G connection as primary and voila! Foursquare works!
Please give us chance to select connection type which we want to use. Good app for Symbian have this feature. Thanks

I cannot seem to login to foursquare using NE 5800. I tried to reboot my phone. Uninstall and reinstall foursquare. Nothing seems to work..

It kept reflecting as login page and shown “please wait” the icon is rotating but after one hour or more, it still reflect the same page! And my login email and password are correct… Sigh~

Like the app BUT it doen not connect via 3G/GPRS on my N97 mini (the connection is priority #1).
It only connects via WLAN (at home) even though the connection is set to ask for confirmation! If I can only use it at home the app is worthless…

Works! Been using it for 2 weeks using A-GPS with EDGE data. Even though EDGE is slower than 3G, it downloads data pretty efficiently (the app must use very little bandwidth).

My check-ins are always ‘off the grid’ for my friends. Where can i turn it on? Looked through web and app, didn’t find anything. Nokia 5530.

Click on “share with friends” when you’re checkin-in. but uncheck twitter and facebook icons if you connected 4sq with them and dont want to post there

Here’s another 6210 Navigator user. This means that I’m never able to check in… which kinda takes the point away from the whole thing.

when you want to add new place and you edit the phone number, if you write an invalid character (apparently starting a phone number with “+” is invalid!!!) it is appearing the text with red, but you cannot use the delete button, you cannot use the back button and you cannot click on the save button. Sometimes you can click on other detail box and edit those, but still you cannot continue or cancel the whole process. You can press the RED button what then kills the app.

Guys…I have a solution to the “Login failed; Connection error” problem. Btw, I’m using Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

1) Open ur phone web browser and the usual “Select Connection” dialog will appear so choose your desired connection (WLAN/GPRS/EDGE..whatever)
2) Make sure U can open up a webpage (my personal favorite, google search)
3) Minize the webpage (do not close or exit, to open other application)
4) Start up Foursquare and THEN ONLY the “Select Connection” dialog will appear. U can choose the same connection or any other available connection, I’ve tried both method and it works.

There U have it folks, hope that helps.
Just hope they will fix this bug and make it easier to use Foursquare.

Go to the phone’s Application Manager and make sure the app can connect to the Internet and get your location. If you’re still having trouble, try deleting the app, restart the phone, and reinstall from foursquare.com/download!

thank you for the help. been trying for days to get foursquare to work other the wifi. My only problem is that I have to do this everytime to connect even thou my phone is set to that connection. the phone I am using is a sony vivaz pro with the symbian s60 platform

guys? I have a Sony that runs Symbian (the Satio), and Nokia have UNhelpfully blocked any non-Nokia phones from accessing Ovi. (open source my 4$$). Do you have a local version of foursquare for symbian I could download? Cheers!

Login failed: Connection error Nokia E72

Hi there, have a problem with my Nokia E71, everytime I check in somewhere, the application hangs and I have to restart it(although check in is registered with Foursquare and posted at Facebook

I just started having this problem also. I use an N8. I’ve had this app for almost 3 months and it just started doing this. If you go to the ovi store and read reviews of this app you will see many people are experiencing this. 

4sq ppl should fix the ‘check-in freezes’ by now…love this apps anyway…plz some fixes should do no harm to you guys

Same problem with the nokia E72. It worked oke but since a day or 4 it starts freezing by checking in, reinstall the app doesn’t solve the problem. A lot of people have the same problem see http://store.ovi.com/content/56750#/content/56750/reviews. I hope you can solve the asap. Thanks

“Jimmy F. shouted… Your foursquare client is out of date! If you don’t upgrade before August 1st it will stop working” appeared on my client. That’s very disturbing as there hasn’t been ANY news about upgraded symbian clients for ^3. 

I guess I’m an ex-foursquarer within a month  

This Foursquare app is installed in my Nokia E5-00. I basically can’t use this app even when I am connected to WiFi OR 3g. I always get the “Error: Connection Error”. This immediately followed by another error “Authentication Failed: Please try to login again.” I tried installing this in Phone Memory and Memory Card. Still, to no avail.

Do you have any recommendations on this? Hopefully these errors are only coming from settings. Maybe it only works in a specific GMT? What do you think.

Note: I installed this in an E71 and a C7-00. Also, I get the same error.

In relation with that foursquare V1 will be “retired” by August 1, 2011. Do you have a new app that supports Foursquare V2?

And I find it rather ridiculous that they started warning people about updates before they updated the client they provide. I’d understand it for the 3rd party applications, but I use the official client and I’m getting the same message.

So are we going to get a new client of Symbian or are we the red headed stepchild of the app world again?

Hi I have a Nokia E6 and when will there be a fousquare client for this phone

Has any one else contacted Foursquare support to ask these questions? I just filled out my support ticket with them, asking a bunch of related questions to this “August 1st” date and currently not having an upgrade feature for us.

I’ve got a problem using Foursquare on my Nokia C3. It seems that I’m always “x” meters away from the venue that I just checked in. The venue has the right address, the pin on the map is in the exact spot of the venue, but still, when I want to check in t says I’m 200-300 metres away from that place. What might be the problem and how can I make my phone “react normally”? Thanks.

its not working with my Nokia N8.. i can’s find any places though i can shout only. Please guide me.

had to realise to my surprise when I bought the E6 that the FS app doesn’t exist for this phone. A real shame.
When will it be available? I suppose it’s just an adaptation to the screen size from the N8/E7 version.

the app doesn’t work on my Nokia 5630 the furthest I get is the login page where I type my email and password then the app and the entire mobile hang… maybe you should do some bugfixing

mobile.foursquare.com allows you to check in manually. but while it can earn you badges, you can’t earn mayorships when checked-in via this wapsite

I first installed it in my Nokia N8 and unistalled it. When I reinstalled it, it doesn’t work on my N8.

I just don’t get it, i’m jusing an e71 but need to reinstall everytime i start the app. if i don’t i’m only able to press exit and have a blanc diplay. Besides that my phone now has desided that i’m in the rotterdam aria instead of the amsterdam area in wich i actually am. Help me please.

i got foursquare on my nokia E72 and it works very fine!..but with foursquare for s60 3rd you can’t comment check ins,can’t add photos and finally foursquare don’t show the points of you and your friends,you have to add those functions with an update

“Network session error” in nokia c5-03. But my internet 3G and wi-fi are working right, and I can access facebook, twitter, and others, only foursquare I can’t. Thanks

To avoid many complains about the application on phones, you better test it after so that you will know if it really works just fine.

I joined the party a little bit late but am glad it’s finally on symbian. That means I can now use it on my Nokia smart phone.

No one seem to care about SE symbian user.. They totally focus on Nokia.. so not justify..

Nokia C5 and C6 are not able to use this version, since it display a “Network Session Error”… only thing i can do is cry… sad !

It didn’t work in Nokia C5!!

My Nokia 5530 doesn’t have integrated GPS receiver. Is there a way to activate the network based location in the Foursquare app for Symbian, just like Google Maps and Lattitude does? Without that option, the app is just useless in this phone.
