Last year, Super Bowl Sunday was one of our biggest days for check-ins, with people around the world gathering at houses and bars for The Big Game. This year, we have some super exciting news for all you football fans: we’ve teamed up with the NFL for the biggest sporting event of the year – Super Bowl XLV! We wanted to give the entire foursquare community a chance to gather together, so we’ve created our first global venue, Super Bowl Sunday. Foursquare users around the world can check into the largest Super Bowl party – ever!

For the dedicated Steelers and Packers fans, show your support by shouting “Go Steelers” or “Go Packers” with your foursquare check-in to unlock a special badge (New to foursquare? Start here). ‘Super Bowl Sunday’ will show up in your places list shortly before kickoff.

Super Bowl

For those fans lucky enough to be at the game in North Texas, checking in will earn you a Super Bowl XLV badge to show off to your friends.

Along with each of the three badges, you’ll receive a special promotional code for a 20% discount on select merchandise at NFLShop.com (some restrictions apply). After the game, gear up for next season with a new jersey of your favorite player!

    Looks like they fixed the G color. And for those asking about if it’s active and what if you’re not near the Super Bowl…

    It most likely won’t be active until closer to game time. And you don’t have to check in at the Super Bowl, you just add the words “Go Steelers” (or the other team ;-) ) to one of your shouts…just like when you had to add the words “I voted” to get the I Voted badge back in November.

    Just check in here… http://foursquare.com/mobile/venue/16641001. You will only get either the Steelers or Packers badge. The Super Bowl XLV badge will be only unlocked to users with tickets at the game. :) If you are having problem using your phone. Try checking in at m.foursquare.com, change your location to “Arlington, TX”. That’s it. Got the Steelers badge. BTW I’m 14 hours ahead.

    It is making me very upset that I have been checking into the super bowl and it will not let me have the badge. Then, its says that foursquare is having problems. Did they not expect this many people to check in? Seriously? That’s not cool.

    Foursquare, if you’re not going to award points or badges, then why did you even list the check-in on the app? If the party is “worldwide,” then award points and badges “worldwide” or knock off the hype. And let’s not even go into the lack of preparedness as evidenced by protracted “server errors.”

It took me most of the game to figure it out but I got my Packers badge. can’t wait till I get a smart phone so i can use the app. it seems its so much easier than mobile ;o) hope this helped

    I tried with mobile version and IPhone version, shouted either Go Packers or Go Steelers, but never got the badge even though I tried many times. And now it’s too late. Thanks for nothing, Foursquare.

    Very disappointing this whole process was a huge failure. After 3hrs of trying to locate and check in to Super Bowl Sunday to be told I was to far away to earn points and a badge was the most frustrating experience with Foursquare. Who knew to change your location. It never said that in the announcement . It said it was worldwide. Huge let down!! Foursquare should award the badge nonetheless to all of us who checked in to make up for this annoyance!!! VERY DISAPPOINTED !!!!
