An incredible global #4sqDay!
Last year, a few foursquare users surprised us by creating 4sqDay – a way for them to celebrate together. They set up a site to help organize events, and there were nearly 300 gatherings. Since then, we’ve grown quite a bit, but we weren’t sure what to expect for the second annual 4sqDay. Needless to say, we were blown away and overjoyed by the response from our amazing community. Together they organized over 1,200 foursquare events, 19 mayors (including Mayor Bloomberg!) declared official 4sqDay in their cities, and we hit our first day with over 3 million check-ins!
People celebrated 4sqDay in the ways that were most relevant to them: hosting charitable drives at local restaurants, organizing swarms at their favorite bookstores, playing foursquare on an actual foursquare court, or just meeting up with other users in their area at a local bar. Super swarms were unlocked, video tributes filmed, celebrities tweeted, and one of our users demonstrated her affinity for foursquare in the boldest way we have ever seen! And it was all over the world, as far from New York as Martinique, Dubai, Slovakia, Armenia, and Latvia.

So thanks to all of you for checking in with your friends, putting faith in our little startup, and exploring your communities (and an extra special thanks to the amazing organizers of 4sqDay – Walter, Nate, and Jessica). You have no idea how much this meant to us, and we can’t wait until the next one.
