Pages are now self-serve! A new home for brands and organizations on foursquare.

Back in January of 2010, Intel became the first organization with a Page on foursquare. We hacked together a new template for them (look at our spec, with our crazy old logo!) and built it out by hand. And, for the last 18 months, we did pretty much that same thing for the next 3000-ish organizations that followed.

Today we’re making foursquare Pages self-serve (to the great relief of our BizDev team). Any brand, organization, or publication can now create their own Page, gain followers, share Tips, check in, and reach their fans. Join the likes of MTV, the New York Times, Tiffany & Co, NASA, and Scanwiches by creating a Page for your organization now!

There are a bunch of features that make this perfect for brands:

  • Reach the whole foursquare community with your Tips and check-ins (and push those check-ins to both Facebook Pages and Twitter).
  • Let entire teams of people manage the same Page. With our new tool, you can make multiple people Page ‘managers,’ so that they can all contribute. It’s perfect for big organizations.
  • From the web or your mobile phone, you can upload photos to your Tips and check-ins. It’s great for making them really shine for all of your followers.
  • And, when your page is complete and you’ve added a few Tips, you’ll be featured in our Page Gallery.

To get started, just head here. It takes just one click to sign-up with your organization’s Twitter account.

    Thumbs up!

Doesn’t seem to be working yet. Auto directs me back to main foursquare page (even when signed in). Waiting patiently, and very excited!

Any tricks to getting the link to work?  Seems to be redirecting to my main profile page here.

This is great, but I have a question. Our organization has multiple locations providing different services. Do Brand Pages work for us? Do we need to set up separate locations for each?

  • http://twitter.com/smartwatermelon Andrew Rich

“https://foursquare.com/create_page” just redirects to “https://foursquare.com/”. No page creator in evidence.

Can an existing account be turned into a page?

    Now it does :-)

    Not very clear though…

There’s definitely something odd and/or not self-explanatory. If I go to that page when not logged in, it redirects me to a login page which offers absolutely no option of “one click to sign-up with your organization’s Twitter account”.

  • Ix2392

I’ve devoted a lot of time to creating many tips already as a user, can those be transferred to my page account? We’ve created over 690 tips around the world.

  • http://twitter.com/smartwatermelon Andrew Rich

Works now and very well, too. Just set up two brand pages in a matter of minutes.

hmmn. I think you guys have missed a trick here.. it’s a very rare organisation that visits venues and checks in.. I mean.. how can they? foursquare is for humans. maybe fair enough tips, but they’re nearly always spam. Rethink.

Can we at least have a feature to block any brand we like?

  • http://theonetruebix.com/ The One True b!X

What am I missing? You were logged in as yourself when you did this? Were you also logged in to your own Twitter account at the time, or to the brand’s?

Works nice, but I have a question. I really like management system with giving acces to many people to the page. But it works just on pages that were created now. We have page from older time with separate login and there cannot find the way to add myself as manager to this page. Would be great! any suggestions?

  • Michal Berlinger

Actually they can. It is rare of course. We have czech woodcraft club for children and we want to check to place we are actually on trip, so parents can see that everything is fine (on foursquare or on web page through foursquare API application). And we can later then make some interesting statistics from data we gathered from checkins. So for us it is very useful.

I have tried it, but my personal account still works for me. https://foursquare.com/firatdemirel I dont know how to get it back. :)

What about API access for doing this kind of thing?

  • Jonathan

I loved that crazy old logo!

  • http://kennydude.me Joe Simpson

It’s probably being rolled out just so Foursquare doesn’t get nocked off the air :)

It’s a problem if your Twitter account is already linked to a personal FSQ account as it will be with most small businesses

There are many interesting use cases for brand pages.

Newspapers could use tips to include highlights of restaurant/venue reviews.
Historical societies could use tips to point to interesting factoids about certain places.

The list goes on and on.

    Cool I will try it.
    Thanks

  • Gil

Cannot create a page if the twitter account you want to use is already being used by your normal foursquare account.

  • http://greensboro-nc.com Greensboro

Is it possible to merge venue pages and user pages into the new brand page?
    Thanks

Due to your terms of service – “…agree that you won’t create a page that primarily or substantially promotes or advertises alcohol…” – this stuff is not available to wineries, wine shops, wine bars, pubs  and also restaurants. Compliments!

Asking for some insight on Foursquare specifically for our situation:Context: I am working with a non-profit that sets up a booth and/or tent at several different event venues throughout the calendar year. At these venues, there are many other venues/activities occurring. In addition we have our own scheduled events that we set up at brick & mortar venues that we do not own. At these particular events we are the only “vendor” at the location other than the owner(s). I am exploring foursquare to encourage engagement and have some fun with our developing community.Question: Since we do not own any of the venues that are described above…but do have a physical presence at the events…what would be the best steps to take with utilizing foursquare? We have everything from live music played at certain times to VIP tickets we can give away/to raffles….so sense there is an opportunity for us to leverage foursquare for some fun with our community. Thoughts/insight would be appreciated

  • Gwaite

I tried to start a page, but Foursquare refused to recognize my business main phone number, it is on our website. Any suggestions ( other than waiting for the mail?)
