Say oi! привет! 안녕! hai! and สวัสดี! to foursquare in your language!

With over 10 million members all over the world, foursquare has a hugely global community. People have checked in to every single country on the planet, so we feel the least we can do is make a first-class foursquare experience available to everyone. That’s why we have versions of our application for all different types of phones, and why, back in February, we launched five translations of our app – in French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. Since then, our in-country use has exploded, with tons of people, local businesses, and brands hopping on.

Today, with the launch of five more languages (Bahasa Indonesian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Thai), we’re excited to announce that over 1,500,000,000 people now have access to foursquare in their mother tongue. These five new languages represent some of our fastest growing areas internationally.

All you have to do to see foursquare in your chosen language is update your iPhone, Android, or BlackBerry to the latest version of the app (you can download the updates here), and foursquare will automatically switch to your phone’s default language. For those visiting foursquare.com, we translated everything for the web, too (you can change it on the bottom left of the page). Give it a spin, and enjoy checking in, keeping up with your friends, and browsing through local lists in a language you understand.

P.S. Our summer intern, Mario Morales (who came to us by way of Camp Interactive), worked on this as one of his projects!  Drop us a line if you, too, want to change the way people explore the world around them – we’re hiring!
