API Highlight: Plan, travel, share, repeat.

Helllloooo jetsetters! Today we have two nifty apps to bookend your travels with: one that sets you up with a great itinerary before you go, and another that creates beautiful visualizations of your past travels (because showing off your travels to friends and family is half the fun).

Plan Your Next Trip (the grand prize winner of our recent global hackathon) uses foursquare’s Explore API to build you an engaging travel itinerary for your next destination by sourcing the best, most popular places to fill your day and night with. With suggestions starting with breakfast in the morning and ending with watering holes at night, as well as points of interest and places to rest in between, you’ll never have a dull moment.

Not feeling something on the list? Plan My Next Trip includes a choose-your-own adventure component, offering you additional suggestions based on your answers to their prompts. Itineraries also include venue tips and a map of all your suggested locations — how easy is that?

Not the souvenir type? TripsQ gives you a whole lot more to show for your travels. The app uses your airport check-ins to create a map of your trips around the world. It also delves into a bunch of interesting stats, like your carbon emissions, total miles travelled, and even how much distance you’ve covered in relation to the moon.

We love that our API allows developers access to a ton of raw data (like user-authenticated check-ins and venue information) that they can transform into compelling visualizations and tools for people on foursquare. It makes checking in an even more powerful action for our community because of the value built by external developers (like you!).

You can check out more travel apps that use our API to enrich your trips at our app gallery.
