Nerds need redesign love too! Announcing the brand new foursquare developer site

From apps that create soundtracks of our lives to ones that help plan our travels, answer our burning questions, and even feed our dogs, we’re constantly inspired by the amazing things built on the foursquare API.

As our community of developer grows (we receive almost two thousand requests per second(!) to our API), we’re constantly looking for ways to make it easier to build on our platform. That’s why today, we’re unveiling our newly redesigned developer site, developer.foursquare.com.

Making room for new features
We first launched developer.foursquare.com in December 2010, along with the newest version of the API. In the year since, we’ve added tons of new platform features, ranging from our Venue Project, to our Realtime Push APIs. With this redesign we rethought our site from the ground up with an eye towards making it easier for developers to find the resources they’re looking for.

Getting to know our platform
With so many different tools available on our API, we know that sometimes it can be overwhelming to find what you’re looking for. We now have a retooled Getting Started Guide and an overview section that walks you through tutorials, set up, and our most common use-cases. We also share some best policies and practices, so it’s a worthwhile read for even some of the more experienced foursquare hackers.

A look behind the scenes
Ever wonder how Instagram uses foursquare as its location layer, or how American Express accesses the foursquare API to help small businesses? Our apps showcase illustrates some of our favorite apps and how they work with our platform.

Ready, set, build!
For those already set up and raring to go, all of our endpoints can now be found in a single place, and can even be filtered by platform type. For instance, if you’re building something for merchants, you can choose to only view the merchant-relevant endpoints.

We did this redesign to make our platform easier to use for developers of all stripes. We can’t wait to see what you build next. Enjoy!
