    I’d like to see a similar campaign on FourSquare that isn’t linked to a CC company.  Something like a badge for shopping at local businesses.  Not sure of the logistics of this, but I think it would be a hit.

    I synced my card and one of the merchants showing for me is a local mall (full of the types of stores and restaurants you’d expect at a mall – Banana Republic, California Pizza Kitchen, etc.).  Given that the deal is showing up, I don’t see why there would be a problem, but I wanted to confirm that spending anywhere at this mall should be fine.  Thanks.

    I was there briefly last night and loaded the deal onto my card so I should have until tonight to spend it (24 hrs).

    What if I have more than one American Express Card?You can only sync one Card per unique foursquare account. When you load a special in the foursquare app and spend at the merchant, the Card you use must match the Card and foursquare account that was enrolled in the program.

    but when i linked my foursquare, it let me link all 3 cards.  i tried at 2 diff merchants yest and received the foursquare confirmation saying “congrats” and to expect a statement credit for both of those….we’ll see if i get it….i didnt get any emails tho?

    Is there a way to get Foursquare to identify my business location as a small business for specials like this?  My location worked fine for the non-foursquare small business amex credit

    This promo landed on business pages without any kind of consent.  Employees would not even know how to answer questions regarding this promo.  Any time there is confusion, it reflects poorly on the retail business.  Glitches that have nothing to do with retail operators will create ill feelings toward the retailer.  Foursquare should not be engaging in this greedy tactic.  Amex must have paid them dearly!

    Awesome promo!  Is it one time per merchant?  For example, Fairway Market is by my apt.  I shop there multiple times per week.  Can I use the offer more than once or is it only a one time coupon?

    It doesn’t work for Windows 7.5 Smartphone at least for Samsung Focus. It never shows up this kind deal on Windows phone even though synced with AMEX card.

    I’m a small business owner and had the same experience yesterday, except the customer understood that we should be providing her with the discount on her bill. My servers had no idea about this promo, nor did my servers, and we really didn’t know how to respond to her request. Because all the information was on her mobile phone, she didn’t want to hand it over to have us scroll through the information. She was annoyed that we didn’t know about the promo–and also annoyed that we couldn’t honor the promo. Talk about ill feelings!! 

    Of more concern, when I call AMEX, they have no one who can respond to questions about this promo on Foursquare (i.e., there is no one responsible for this deal they cut with 4sq–at least, not on the merchant end). While I have always valued my customers who carry Amex, I’m of a mind to stop accepting Amex cards altogether, since they, and Foursquare, are only benefiting from the relationships I build with my customers, but when there are issues and questions, neither of them are anywhere to be found, and I’m left having to repair the potential damage they caused in my customer-merchant relationship.

    It’s just plain wrong.

    You just need to explain the promotion is between foursquare and AmEx. The customer will receive a discount on their AmEx statement. All you have to do as the business is explain this to the customer and also explain to your employees the same script.

    Please give merchants a contact phone number for costumer service. This offer has been put for our business and its causing CHAOS!!! It is incredible how this has been pushed and shoved with no permission what so ever from our business. THIS IS NOT LEGAL!!! Does this sound like a class action?

    It’s true, some businesses w/the special next to their name don’t even accept AMEX. If you’re a new customer it’s worth your while to check first if they take AMEX. Free money is free money. Stop complaining ppl.

    I agree it’s not simple, but they tried to make it simple as possible. If you were offer the program, how would you have worded it? I have to admit it was confusin to me. And no I don’t work for amex or four square. I actually installed four square today .

    Only in fine print does it say that you are allowed one credit across all merchants. I was allowed to unlock the deal for multiple merchants during the week, only to find out later that I would receive a single credit for them.

    No surprise there. Their $25 statement credit a few weeks before worked the same way. I don’t think that policy is deceiving based on how other AmEx statement credits have worked. I take it this is your first time? This is the third time I’ve utilized an AmEx statement credit. Once last year, and twice this year ($25 SBS, and $10 FourSquare).

    Yes, this was the first time. The only reason I mention it is that it would be fairly easy to both clarify this in the promotion (instead of just fine print), as well as prevent users from unlocking multiple merchants.

    I think the only way to unlock multiple merchants would be to have multiple FourSquare accounts with a unique AmEx card associated with each FourSquare account.

    What I meant was that once you unlock a local merchant Amex deal in FourSquare (and have a pending credit to your account) you shouldn’t be allowed to do it for another local merchant — or at least be warned that you only get credit for one, if you do.

    I loaded this special onto my Fidelity Amex card, and then used it in that specific gas station.  but now, it has been more than 10 days, I still did not see the 10 dollars credit, and most annoying is that i DO NOT know who I can ask for answer…

    Class action for what?  Getting you more business?  The rules are simple…synch the card to foursquare, spend at a business identified in the app and AmEX credits the individual directly.  It’s that simple.  Chaos?  How?  Yes, it’s perfectlyu legal.  AmEx is PAYING people to SHOP at YOUR store.  Bo hoo!

    It sucks because neither of these companies gave any notification whatsoever to any of the businesses involved that the promotion was happening.  Not only that, but the actual verbiage on the user’s mobile device is so incomplete that it gives the clear impression to the customer (and staff) that the business is supposed to give them a discount on the spot.  This leads to confusion…it makes the business owners, management and staff look inept, and in order to leave the customers happy it has cost many business owners MONEY.  Many businesses have been forced to give the customers the $10 credit out of their own pockets to ensure a satisfied customer.  It’s absolutely insane that they have done this.

    Just to be clear.. I have received 2 $10 credits from 2 separate businesses that had this deal.. So I guess the ‘

    Are you aware that there are deals being offered on the iPhone app that are not being offered on Android? How is this fair? My boyfriend and I both checked in (on the most recent 4sq app) at Melville Winery in Lompoc, CA and Intelligentsia Coffee in Silver Lake, CA and he was offered the Spend $5, get $5 statement credit both times and I was not!!! My account is synced to my Platinum card and since you did not offer it, I was not able to save $10! How is this fair?
