API Highlight: get your healthy on!

One of the best parts about the foursquare app is that it can help people in the real world. For this week’s API highlight, we’re showcasing apps that help with one of the most important things of all: your health!

MyVirtualHealthCheck is an app that helps people record, monitor, and share vital health information, like glucose levels, blood pressure, heart rate, and weight. The app uses foursquare location data to power the Healthy Spots section, which helps people find healthy food options, outdoor and fitness spots, and medical locations nearby.

WellApps is at work on a slew of apps that help people with chronic conditions such as Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and depression. People can monitor and log their symptoms, meals, and medications throughout the day. By pairing that information with their check-in histories, people can see how their physical locations (from restaurants to hospitals) might be impacting their health, giving themselves and their doctors better insight into the factors affecting their condition. It’s a huge step in better treating and managing health conditions.

Goodhop is working on an app to help keep track of your health and wellness by incorporating some friendly competition. Get ahead of your pals by checking in to the gym, lose some ground every time you hit up a barbecue joint. Link up your foursquare account and try it out – they’re looking for feedback!

API Highlights feature our favorite apps built on top of the foursquare platform. Check out the app gallery to see more. If you’re a developer, you can access the same tools that were used to build these apps over at developer.foursquare.com.
