API Highlight: Use your check-ins to track your carbon emissions!
A bunch of people have been using foursquare to track their New Year’s resolutions, from staying fit to eating healthy.
If one of your resolutions is to be greener this year, you can start by using the AMEE Location Footprinter (ALF) to track your environmental footprint based on your foursquare check-in data.

ALF looks at the distance between the places you check in to throughout the week, makes a best guess at what mode of transportation you used (plane, car, or walking), and then calculates your CO2 emissions.

Once you’ve connected your foursquare account, you’ll get a weekly email summary letting you know your carbon emissions for all the journeys you made, so you can watch your footprint decrease as you make changes to your daily routine.
You can learn more about ALF and connect your foursquare account here. And for you resolution fiends, check out these apps for getting your healthy on, traveling, and giving back.
API Highlights feature our favorite apps built on top of the foursquare platform. Check out the app gallery to see more. If you’re a developer, you can access the same tools that were used to build these apps over at developer.foursquare.com.
